Harmony from Duality: crafting transcendent beings with ropes and water.
It was a sunny bank holiday in Berlin, and we spent it hanging out by a lake with friends, trying to soak up as much sun as possible after another dreary winter. Two of my friends happen to be incredible rope models, and another is a photographer. It was hard to resist throwing everyone in the water, grabbing my camera and ropes, and seeing what tales could we create together.
I love playing around in water - ropes make you feel really vulnerable, but add water to the mix and it kicks up the fear factor another notch. I loved capturing those intense moments when they finally came up for air after being underwater for too long, or when they were struggling against the ropes and water, trying not to drown.
We explored this idea of two distinct beings merging into a new, elevated form that embodied the best of both. Like one choosing the perfect host to complement themselves, creating this ideal balance - similar to the Japanese concept of nagomi. After the "birth" of these new beings in the water, they found safety on the shore. Then one found its perfect prey, the ideal host that would give it the chance at a more enlightened existence. The final entity transcended duality, blending the strengths and virtues of its parts into one harmonised whole.
